Job Title: Flow Cytometry Scientist
Reports to: COO
Location: CytoEX Inc. (West Philadelphia) FLSA Status: Full-time/non-exempt
Job Summary:
CytoEX Inc. (formerly Master Piece Flow Cytometry Services LLC.) is a startup contract research organization (CRO) located in the innovative scientific hub of University City in Philadelphia. As a company, we seek to provide both the physical and intellectual resources to the many companies, academic institutions, clinics, and laboratories, both regionally and globally, in need of quality cytometric data. We are searching for an experienced, creative, and motivated flow cytometrist to join our growing team of passionate individuals to help deliver these services to our customers. In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute your integral background and skill sets to our company, especially during this exciting time of early phase development and growth. You will help us achieve our goal of utilizing our flow cytometry expertise to support the established and upcoming biomedical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological research happening within the top-ranking research communities in the Philadelphia area. A successful candidate must have extensive experience and knowledge of flow cytometry and its related sciences (immunology, cell and molecular biology, etc.). Your flow cytometry skills with experimental design and consultation, sample preparation, data acquisition, and analysis, including high-dimensional data sets, will be much appreciated here.
Duties/Responsibilities:
● Maintain, troubleshoot, and backup flow cytometry instrumentation, including monthly and daily scheduled checks.
● Start up, quality control, and shutdown.
● Creation and implementation of research protocols related to the use of flow cytometry
instrumentation and assays.
● Keep flow cytometry reagent inventories up to date and organized.
● Design, execute, and analyze multicolor (6+ colors) flow cytometry assays with various cell lines.
● Design, set up, and sort cells (human, murine, primary, or other cell lines) for multiple different
projects.
● Contribute to corporate and team project specific timelines and goals.
● Remain up to date with current literature relating to the field of flow cytometry advancement.
● Attend team meetings and communicate current work and progress.
● Support, teach, and be a flexible and collaborative team-player.
Required Skills/Abilities:
● Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
● Excellent research skills and laboratory familiarity.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills (with the ability to clearly communicate
research plans, findings, and any issues that may arise to both teams and clients.
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Powerpoint, Excel), Prism, and Windows system to generate reports and cytometry instrumentation management.
● Ability to work in a fast paced and highly dynamic collaborative team environment.
Education and Experience:
● M.S. degree in immunology, cell biology, microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry or related field with 3+ years of experience , or B.S. degree with 6+ years of experience.
● Experience preferred for BD Instruments such as FACSAria Fusion and BD FACSMelody, Fortessa and other platforms such as Amnis ImageStream, Miltenyi, Thermofisher, and Cytek instrumentation
● 3+ years of relevant flow cytometry experience (preferably in a flow cytometry lab setting).
● Experience with 6+ multi-color flow cytometry and data analysis (FACSDiva, FlowJo, FCS
express, Flowsom, R ).
● Previous working experience in industry.
● Experience with bulk and single cell sorting.
● Expertise in aseptic techniques for cell culture and cell isolation.
● SCYM(ASCP)CM certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
● Prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
● Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
